Home > Wherever I Lay My Pack

Hello and welcome to Wherever I Lay My Pack! This site is designed to help you make the most of your travel time – whether that’s a 5 day trip or a 5 year tour. The aim of this site is to inspire and help you plan, prep and go on your trip of a lifetime.

Many travel sites will report on where they go and what they do, but won’t tell you how to do it. They also focus on standard destinations and itineraries. This site is different; not only do I share my travel experiences, but I give you practical information on how you can do the same trips – most of which are active and have an element of adventure. And if you’re more in to doing things your own way, my resources will arm you with all the tools and information you need to plan and embark on your own expeditions. So whatever your trip style, this site can help you!

To make getting ready for your trip easy, this site is broken down in to sections. Inspirational articles are on the Trip Style pages, with special sections on biking, hiking, travelling and more.

Destinations highlights some of the best places to visit and what to do when you get there.

Want to dig a little deeper? Check out the Resources for the ‘how to’s’ of travel, which will give you a solid foundation in many forms of travel, from the standard to the extraordinary, plus kit reviews to help you choose the gear you need for your adventures.

The Services section has a set of services I offer to help plan your perfect trip, whilst the blog has a collection of posts with lists, musings and opinions to give you some food for thought as you prepare for your next journey.

Wherever you’re off to next, you’re starting at the right place. So what are you waiting for? Get ready, set, let’s go!

Best Blue Mountains Day Hike Gorgeous Scenery

The Best Blue Mountains Day Hike

I had never heard of Katoomba before a train I was on sailed through it and everyone except my friend Heather and I got off. This meant one of two things; it was either a hideous tourist hangout, or a brilliant tourist attraction. Either way, something interesting went on beyond that tiny station.

The Kalalau Trail Hike

Kalalau Trail

Being a fan of Jurassic Park, I was chomping at the bit to get myself to Kauai, the ‘Garden Isle’ in the Hawaiian Island chain, where many of the scenes of the movie are filmed. To me, nothing screams more of ‘dinosaur!’ than the stunningly rugged, notoriously inaccessible and uniquely beautiful Na Pali Coast. If dinosaurs did exist anywhere in the world, Na Pali is it.
